fixing things

I really respect people who know how to fix things. The people I have a problem with are those who think they know how to fix things and really don't. Or those people who think they can build a house and do most of the things themselves instead of hiring a professional. We have had to fix at least 3 major things in our home due to the previous owner and his "know-how" skills. That being said, I'm sure he knows how to do a lot of things and most of them will never have a problem and he may even get praise for, but from me... probably not. I like learning new things and developing new skills, but I prefer to learn them because I choose to, not out of desperation or panic. I was complaining to a neighbor about this and I said, "Don't you just want everything in your home to just work and let you know when it may need a little tune up" and she said, "don't we all just want life to go well with no problems? But the reality is that our problems make us learn things we otherwise wouldn't including things like patience, empathy, humility and all that stuff". Yep, I guess so. I am apparently in need of a lot of those things. I hope I learn those lessons soon.
